Leadership Skills
In leadership skills we focused on the 5 character traits needed to be a successful leader. These five traits were the basis of our class. We watched one movie and one documentary in which we saw how Nelson Mandela and Billy Beane displayed these 5 traits. For the class we had to do a project on two leaders. I did my project on Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.I chose these two men because the were both black civil right activists in different countries. This project really intrigued me because I got to learn about the struggles different countries have had. This class was very interesting and fun.
Art Apreceation
In art appreciation we learned about the different designs and features you would find in ancient architecture. We looked at older mansion homes all over Ireland and we saw the same sort of things in all of them. All though I have absolutely no interest in any sort of art I would say it is a good class for those who do have an interest. We also had a project in art appreciation. We were to do it on any artist of our choice. I chose Leonardo da Vinci because I had often heard his name and wanted to learn more about him.
information technolagy
In IT we learned how to use the different tools that you would find on your commuter or Ipad. We learned how to make things like spreadsheets and slide shows. These things will defiantly come in handy as we continue on our leaving cert journey. When we were done going over these we were able to work on our blogs. This defiantly helped me catch up on them. IT was a very fun module.
Pottery
Pottery was a module that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was the one time in our hectic schedule that allowed us to sit down and be creative and produce good content while having fun. Mr. O'Connor was the module teacher and he showed us how to mould pieces correctly and apply glaze so that our pieces would look beautiful and professional. The best piece that I created was my name plate. I put nice glaze on it to really make the letters pop.
Health
In this module, I learnt all about health and safety within our homes and our school. Mr O'Connor taught us what each precaution meant and how to prevent then if ever it were to occur. For example, on one of the 3 days we had our health and safety module, we learnt all things that referred to the term 'caution'. Caution is care taken to avoid danger or mistakes. With this definition commonly known, we were able to identify common problems that may occur in an everyday situation. Overall, I thoroughly enjoy and learn a lot from this module.
Public Speaking
Mindfulness
My mindfulness project was really interesting I was not aware that mindfulness can help both your mental and physical health. Mindfulness is a practice involved in various religious and secular traditions, from Hinduism and Buddhism to yoga and, more recently, non-religious meditation. It has opened my eyes to a new way of living. I really enjoyed this project. It will hopefully enhance my sporting and academic ability. I am sure it will set me up for great leaving cert results.
